Day 4: Out with the boys

Great to have some company on today's stretch to Mawgan Porth, with my local nephews Jack and Thomas joining me. They set a good pace, too, and we we were soon turning the miles over with quite a bit of beach and sand dune walking. In fact, we made such good time that we reached the Gannel estuary at Crantock before the tide had gone out. I would probably have opted for the 1.5 mile diversion but Jack and Thomas were all for a paddle and we waded across. To think I was bathing in the Carribean three weeks ago... .

So, that's four days down, 50 odd to go: legs and feet still feeling good and I'm happier with the walking than I was after the terrain on the first two days. I've settled into a rhythm with my blood sugar readings and seem to be managing the fuel/insulin balance reasonably well. I'm probably taking around 60% of the insulin I usually do.

We have tonight and tomorrow on the drive before the motorhome is on the move again to Boscastle. Tomorrow's walk takes me away from the South West Coast Path as my rules don't allow me to take the ferry across the estuary at Padstow. I head east onto the Camel Trail and rejoin the SWCP on Friday past Wadebridge.

Jack and Thomas are back at work tomorrow, so I'm out alone again. I intend keeping my boots on all day.

  1. Hi Neil, hope you are feeling OK. To be honest I find it incredible that you are attempting this. Huge respect for that. I walked 5 miles last Saturday and my hips are murdering me. Slightly concerned that I have agreed to climb Scafell pike with my daughters later this year. I would love to be able to do what you are doing. Keep going. I'll be following your progress. 1. Great to hear from you, Kev. I've been lucky with injuries over the years: the Atlas right back clearly wasn't as committed as the left back! Best of luck with Scafell Pike, hope we have that reunion one year soon.
